Residents and community leaders in the Bronx are preparing to commemorate Juneteenth.
Bronx Borough President Vanessa Gibson says the holiday is “a day which recognizes the end of slavery and celebrates Black and African Americans' freedom, liberty, justice, achievements progress."
As part of the celebration, Mullaly Park will be renamed after the late Rev. T. Wendell Foster.
“We’re going to continue to make sure that our children know the history of African Americans that have come before them and paved the way,” Gibson says.
