Bronx boxing legend Joe DeGuardia dies

Boxing legend and lifelong Morris Park resident Joseph DeGuardia Sr. died Tuesday at age 86. DeGuardia, who was a former boxer, founded the Morris Park Boxing Club and Better America Through Our Youth.

Boxing legend and lifelong Morris Park resident Joseph DeGuardia Sr. died Tuesday at age 86.
DeGuardia, who was a former boxer, founded the Morris Park Boxing Club and Better America Through Our Youth. He guided thousands of young fighters.
DeGuardia is survived by his wife, Dorothy; sons Joseph Jr., who is a boxing promoter, Donald, Eric, and Dean; daughters Lynne, Denise, and Raven; grandchildren; great-grandchildren; and two sisters. His son Rick Jay died in 2015.
His wake is Friday at Joseph A. Lucchese Funeral Home on Morris Park Avenue from 2 p.m to 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. The funeral is Saturday.
