New Yorkers are looking for ways to beat the heat, including campers at the Castle Hill YMCA in the Bronx.
News 12 talked to Ibrahim Diakite, the youth and family senior director of the site, to see what they are doing to keep campers safe. He says they have water on hand and an indoor air conditioning system.
Diakite adds camp staff will monitor the weather and may shorten an outdoor activity if it gets too hot. They are also trained to recognize heat exhaustion and heat stroke.
"To keep the fun, we have a lot of swimming activities, water fun and games. And we are also mindful that it's hot, but it is still summer, so we try not to limit them as much as possible," says Diakite.
The second camp session at the Castle Hill YMCA ends Friday. Session three starts Monday, July 31, and spots are still available.
