A new curriculum that includes lessons about AIDS and HIV begins Monday in Bronx and city classrooms including kindergarten.
The new curriculum on AIDS and the HIV virus is five lessons long. Education officials say kindergarteners will not be taught that HIV is a sexually transmitted disease. However, some parents say explaining AIDS in the younger grades is likely to raise more questions than answers.
Parents can remove their children from the lessons by contacting the school principal. However, they must promise to educate their children at home.
