Health officials are launching a public awareness campaign Tuesday to let Bronx and city immigrants know their status will not be reported when seeking treatment at public hospitals.

The city?s Health and Hospitals Corporation (HHC) told AM New York that many immigrants do not seek medical attention because they fear deportation. However, HHC officials say Bronx and city public hospitals cannot share information on a patient?s immigration status. According to HHC officials, this has been a longstanding policy of the agency, which runs 11 city hospitals and 80 community clinics in the five boroughs.

HHC facilities in the Bronx include Jacobi, Lincoln, Morrisania Diagnostic and Segundo Ruiz medical centers and North Central Bronx Hospital.
