A nonprofit gives Bronx food businesses a chance to grow.
Bronx CookSpace calls itself an incubator kitchen.
"That means we rent out commercial kitchen space to small food businesses," says Alix Fellman, of Bronx CookSpace.
There’s a total of four workspaces used for a number of businesses, like caterers and wholesalers.
Ramon Acevedo says Bronx CookSpace saved his business. Acevedo uses the Bronx CookSpace to make empanadas, which he sells to different outlets across the tri-state area.
"It kept me alive...keeps the business alive,” says Acevedo. “I would have gone broke."
Leonard Howell uses the space to make meals for a nonprofit that provides meals for people with HIV. He says it means a lot to have a space like this in the Bronx.
"I'm working in the Bronx and I'm helping the people in the Bronx at the same time, so it's a win-win situation for me," says Howell.
