Construction on the future location for the Bronx Council of the Arts began Friday in Westchester Square.
The non-profit organization says it's been a long time coming. Their former location used to be a Chase Bank.
The Bronx Council of the Arts provides cultural services and art programs to people in the borough. It also supports local artists through grants, fellowships and engagement opportunities.
JP Morgan donated the future headquarters building to the Bronx Council of the Arts nearly five year ago.
In April, a drunken driver smashed his truck into the building, but it was deemed structurally sound and didn't affect construction plans.
The non-profit organization says it can't wait to engage with the community.
"...It's really nice to have a space to be able to provide services and actually meet people in the community because that's why we're here," says Dalaeja Foreman, of the Bronx Council of the Arts.
The construction won't be finished for a few years.
