Bronx DA: Yonkers mother who left children in hot car won’t be prosecuted
A Yonkers mother accused of leaving her two children locked in a hot car on the first day of summer will not be prosecuted, the Bronx District Attorney’s Office announced Monday.
Haniyah Agoro, 34, was facing two counts of acting in a manner injurious to her 7-year-old and 10-year-old children.
News 12 reported that she left the children in a car that had the engine off and window up.
Surveillance video showed the mom getting out of the car and walking up the block. Police arrived on the scene 18 minutes later.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention says the inside of a car can reach 109 degrees within 20 minutes, and children can die when their body temperature reaches 107 degrees.
The two children were taken to the hospital and did not sustain any injuries.
