Some drivers say congestion at a couple of Bronx bridges are delaying them from getting where they need to go in their own neighborhoods.

Now that the weather is getting warmer, drivers say a high volume of traffic from the Throgs Neck and Whitestone bridges overflows onto residential streets.

News 12 received pictures showing the congestion when trying to cross from Lafayette Avenue to Tremont Avenue in Throgs Neck, going toward the bridge, and along the Hutchinson River Parkway service road.

Although the Metropolitan Transportation Authority says there were no significant construction-related closures this past week, a spokesperson said, "These locations will benefit greatly from upcoming cashless tolling because customers won't have to slow or stop at toll booths. This is exactly one of the reasons why Gov. Cuomo accelerated the conversation to cashless tolling."

Martin Prince, of Community Board 10, says that while the cashless tolls are welcome, it's not an immediate fix.

The MTA says cashless tolling will be coming to the Throgs Neck and Whitestone bridges this fall.

News 12 reached out to the city Department of Transportation for comment but has not yet heard back.
