More than 50,000 people participated in the 2024 New York City Marathon on Sunday.
Runners made their way across the five boroughs through the 26.2-mile course, with only a little more than a mile of that route covering the Bronx.
The stretch included runners hitting the 20-mile mark in Mott Haven.
Participants entered the Bronx over the Willis Avenue Bridge, then thousands of spectators cheered them on as the runners made their way to the Madison Avenue Bridge and back into Manhattan.
“It’s the perfect temperature,” said Jason Geller, of the Upper West Side, who ran his 14th NYC Marathon. “It feels great to be in the Bronx, because that means we’re almost done!”
There were a number of street closures in the South Bronx on Sunday, but roads were expected to reopen by 10 p.m.
