Dancing and laughter filled the Bronx Museum Sunday afternoon, as people came from around the borough to celebrate the history and culture of the West African country Sierra Leone.
The celebration was part of an annual pageant that hosts participants from different Sierra Leone organizations, social and professional clubs with the goal of reconnecting them to their roots.
Zainabu Sesay-Harrell, the show’s founder, says it keeps getting bigger every year – with participants coming from New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania and Delaware.
She said participants learn about their culture, heritage, teamwork and fellowship.
This year’s pageant winner Rashida Kamara tells News 12 that she has a lot of pride in her country and was honored to be crowned Ms Sierra Leone.”
