A baseball star from the Bronx is among the young men waiting to hear his name called in this week's Major League Baseball draft.
Pitcher Nicholas Padilla attracted attention from professional scouts while at Cardinal Spellman, but he went undrafted last year and ended up at Grayson County College in Texas.
News 12 spoke to Padilla last summer about precautions he was taking to avoid needing the increasingly common Tommy John surgery, but it didn't work. He tore a ligament in his pitching arm after four college games, forcing him to go under the knife.
The Throgs Neck native says he was contacted by all 30 MLB teams during his season, but has only heard from about a dozen since the surgery.
Despite the road bump to going pro, Padilla says he feels confident in his chances of fulfilling his dream and hearing his name called this time around.
