A Bronx native who now lives in Puerto Rico is describing the damage after Hurricane Ernesto hit the island.
Some parts of Puerto Rico still do not have power after the hurricane brought torrential rain to the island.
When Ernesto first hit the island Wednesday, almost half of Puerto Rico had no power.
Jason Cruz is the president of Vision Integrity Purpose Inc., an advocacy group that provides aid during natural disasters, and says this is an ongoing issue.
"These are lives that are being lost because of these issues. So it's deeper than just a power issue or even a grocery issue," he said.
Bronx native Linda Espinal, who now lives in Puerto Rico, says the damages that these hurricanes leave is detrimental.
Cruz says it is always important for the community to get involved.
"Get in the mix with organizations or donate to organizations that are contributing to the on the ground Puerto Rico," he said.
