Nursing homes are a "feeding frenzy" for the coronavirus, according to Gov. Andrew Cuomo, prompting facilities to restrict visits to help stop the spread. But at least one facility in the Bronx is helping families safely see their loved ones in person.
The Throgs Neck Rehabilitation and Nursing Center set up a makeshift visiting station that uses a window to safely bring residents closer to their families.
It was a welcome option for 87-year-old Maria Abbadonato and her family. After more than a month without a visit, they were able to see each other in person.
Abbadonato, who came to the U.S. from Italy at age 19, turned 87 on Friday.
