A Bronx NYPD officer has been indicted on child sex charges for alleged sexual encounters with an underage prostitute.
Prosecutors in court Tuesday laid out 67 counts against NYPD Officer Raul Olmeda, of the 42nd Precinct. They include allegations of prostitution, having sex with a girl under 16 years old and filming the act. Those incidents occurred five times between January and April, investigators say.
The defense described the 40-year-old officer as having a "stellar background," adding that's he's been an NYPD member for four years, is engaged and has lived with his mother for more than 30 years. Olmeda's attorney says he vehemently denies the accusations.
According to prosecutors, investigators executed a search warrant at Olmeda's Bronx apartment a couple months into their investigation and found multiple electronic devices containing child pornography. They say additional files were found that listed more women and girls, which could lead to more charges against the officer.
There was also mention of a tax scheme in which Olmeda was allegedly involved and received $200,000, but that is part of a separate investigation.
Olmeda has been on desk duty for the past six months due to the investigation. A judge set his bond Tuesday at $250,000.
