The freezing temperatures are causing icy spots, and the tenants of one Bronx building say the bitter blast is causing dangerous conditions in their homes.

Claremont Village resident Sheron Moore says the frozen ice and slush on the steps outside her building is a disaster waiting to happen.

Tenants at 1263 Clay Ave. say they have to deal with the leaking walls and floors of their building all the time, but they say the frigid temperatures have caused that water to ice over.

They say the steep steps leading up to their apartments are covered in ice.

Moore says she reached out to the building’s superintendent, called 311 and even asked the fire department to come help, but says nothing gets accomplished.

When she recently called the fire department, she says they came and shut off the water and posted a sign in the building saying the superintendent cannot do anything about the water coming from the streets in the back of the building. The sign also advised tenants to stop calling the fire department or else they would turn off the water until Tuesday, Jan. 16.

Moore says in the meantime, sand and cardboard boxes have been put down on the floor to help with the ice. She says until the problem gets solved it will only get worse.

"Do something about it, don't just leave it. Somebody could break their neck going down these steps," says Moore.

Moore says the superintendent told her nothing can be done about the ice until the leaking problems have stopped.

She and other tenants tell News 12 leaking is always a problem in the building, with pools of water on the floor and soggy mail in the mailboxes.
