A pop-up vaccine mobile unit in the Melrose section of the Bronx decided to keep its doors open Friday despite the snow and cold weather.
Bronx residents headed out the door to get their vaccine and COVID tests at the Catholic Charities Community Service Bronx center on East 152nd Street. The pop-up mobile unit is providing COVID testing for the neighborhood. The site offers COVID testing, booster and vaccines all under one roof.
Catholic Charities says it was important that it weathered today’s storm to provide vaccines and testing to the public, especially with the recent spike in COVID cases because of the Omicron variant.
They say the south Bronx neighborhood in Melrose continues to lag in the number of vaccinated New Yorkers. Organizers are encouraging anyone who needs to get tested to stop by. Catholic Charities will also be giving out N95 masks to people in line. The mobile vaccine unit will be administering COVID tests and vaccines now until 6 p.m. Friday.
