A driver hit two people in Tremont on Monday morning, leaving many in the neighborhood feeling uneasy about the safety of their streets.
Exclusive surveillance video obtained by News 12 shows the incident unfold. It shows a group of people in a dispute on Tremont Avenue at around 2:20 a.m. and the driver gets in his car, reversing onto Monterey Avenue.
The driver, who police have identified as Giovanni Santiago, then hit a 66-year-old man before he put the car in drive and then struck a second person, a 30-year-old woman. The vehicle then struck two parked vehicles.
Santiago is in NYPD custody and is now facing pending charges. Some residents in the area are worried but say they aren't surprised because of how many after-hours venues are in the area.
"If these people don't control their drinking and they're gonna drive a vehicle, that's a problem," said one resident. "They're leaving tipsy... and then they're getting inside a vehicle."
Officials say both victims refused medical attention at the scene of the incident.
