The Bronx Night Market will be shutting its doors at the end of October, and Bronx residents will be forced to say goodbye to a community staple.
The market has become a celebration hub for foodies and the community during the past nearly seven years, after Marco Shalma created the Bronx Night Market in 2017. He says he made the market to support small businesses while giving the community a chance to explore other cultures.
“The last event that we’ve done, we were overrun by… illegal nutcracker, illegal alcohol sales, and we weren’t able to get any barricades so we felt exposed,” said Shalma.
He says not only were the vendors overwhelmed, but the condition that it had put Fordham Plaza in was the last straw.
“Me having to come yet again and clean up human feces from the plaza… that and losing money and being subjected to abuse from different locals and whatnot,” said Shalma when asked about the things that made him decide to close the market.
