A new supportive and affordable housing complex is now up and running – on electricity and only electricity.
The Grand Concourse is welcoming 96 affordable apartments that are now ready for Bronx families. The building, located at 2050 Grand Concourse, is an all-electric development that aims to advance zero-carbon multifamily buildings in the city.
The new housing will also offer vocational training, transportation, and food and nutrition education.
Newly moved in resident Andrea shed tears, embracing the developers who were behind a project that she says changed her life.
In the last five years, New York State’s Homes and Community Renewal has created 14,700 affordable homes here in the Bronx as part of an initiative local leaders hope to continue.
“Affordable housing should try to be affordable for everyone,” said Bronx Borough President Vanessa Gibson. “You realize that this is a beacon of opportunities to provide affordable, quality and safe housing - which is a fundamental right that should be afforded to all New Yorkers."
