A group of Bronx students received brand-new sneakers from a nonprofit running organization.
Members of the New York Road Runners gave away New Balance sneakers to students at P.S. 360.
The initiative was part of Rising New York Road Runners, a new program aimed at keeping children physically active for life.
Students say the new shoes helped get their feet “up and running.”
The sneaker giveaway is part of a larger effort by the organization to kick-start a free youth running program in Puerto Rico.
Two-time Puerto Rican Olympian Beverly Ramos will also serve as a mentor to young athletes on the island.
"It's very special for me to motivate them," Ramos said.
Clothing and shoes will also be donated as part of the organization's effort to expand its youth running program in Puerto Rico.
