As Bronx Week rolls on, we're highlighting some of the best places the borough has to offer this morning. Newswells Marissa Santaelli at the Bronx Zoo getting up close and personal with animals. Marissa, look how close you are to those giraffes. Chris, I think we saved the best for last. I'm here at the wild Encounter platform with giraffes, so you can see right here behind me. I think we have the most incredible view and here with me all morning. Keith Lovett, thank you for sticking with us, going from exhibit to exhibit. I know we have to talk a little bit lower. These giraffes are a little camera shy. We don't want to spook them. But tell me a little bit about these beautiful creatures here behind us the camera, they don't know what to make of it very cautious at times. We're here at the giraffe habitat in our African Plains exhibit at the Bronx Zoo. Out here we have 4 female giraffes and there's actually 3 ostrich out here as well, and this is obviously one of the favorite species here at the Bronx Zoo. Absolutely. This is an incredible sight. I mean I know sometimes they come very, very close. We have Joe here next to me. I'll step out of the way. He's feeding the giraffes or attempting to, I think we're scaring them a little bit this morning, but tell me what goes into kind of taking care of them here in the. We have a very elaborate giraffe care program here at the zoo. Joe is our expert giraffe on site who spends a lot of time working with these animals every day. It goes from nutrition to veterinary care. It's just a very elaborate program that really meets all the needs of the animals. Absolutely. So one more question for you here. If someone wants to experience the same experience and right now, what can they do? How can they prepare? We have some Very amazing wild encounters that we offer guests, and you can actually come up on this platform and feed them. You need to book through Bronx Zoo.com. You can follow right through a wild Encounters program and you can get the opportunity to actually come out and meet these draft up, up close and personal. As Bronx Week rolls on, we're spotlighting some boogie down hot spots. This morning News 12's Marissa Santorelli is at the Bronx Zoo having way too much fun. Marissa, what are you doing now at the zoo? Good morning Chris. Yeah we're here in the aviary right now surrounded by all kinds of birds. I mean there's birds flying overhead. We have penguins swimming down below. It's a lot of fun too much fun, like you just said here, I'm joined again by Keith Lovitt. He tell me a little bit about these birds here behind us. We're here in the seabird aviary at the Bronx Zoo. an exhibit that represents Patagonia, southern South America. So we have quite a few species in here. The ones directly behind us, those are called Inca terns. We have Magellanic penguins in here, cross swans. So there are several species of birds in here that make this beautiful space their home. Amazing, and they're here and a culture altogether thriving. a lot of conservation here, right? We do a lot of conservation. Part of our mission with the wildlife Conservation Society is to really focus not only on the animals here at the zoo we provide great care to, but also the conservation we do in the wild to help protect species as well. Incredible. All right, I'm hearing it's feeding time. It's feeding time. They're all waiting for us. Sure, you can retrain in there. So mostly eating right here are going to be the Inca churns. Yeah, they're all going to come flying in. Penguins are sneaking underneath and sailing some of the fish as well. And this is what they usually eat in the morning. I'm hearing this is kind of like McDonald's. This is a small snack for them. They're multiple times throughout the day. They're very active birds. They require a lot and they have a lot of energy, so we do feed them multiple times throughout the day. Amazing Keith. Thank you so much. It's Bronx Week, and we're continuing to celebrate our borough's hot spots this morning. News's Marissa Santarelli at the Bronx Zoo taking us back in time on a dinosaur safari. Marissa, we know because they made a stop here at our studios, they are very lifelike. Yeah Christi, good morning. I mean, I feel like a kid again. There's dinosaurs all along the path here that both moved and they were, so if you hear them, you're going to hear them. They're loud and they're lifelike and we're so excited to be here this morning. We're actually joined by Keith Lott. Thank you so much for having us today. Welcome to the Bronx Zoo and our safari exhibit. So we're going to talk about this exhibit a little bit. Tell me just if people want to come and visit the Bronx Zoo. Going to see when they come here. Yes, this is our most popular seasonal attraction. We've done this several times here in the Bronx Zoo, but this is an interactive jungle trail where you get to see all kinds of different dinosaurs. Pterosaurs is about 60 different dinosaurs. We have 11 new ones this year, so it's quite exciting, super exciting. I think people of all ages could come out. 26 like come and have a really, really great time. So tell me a little bit about this big guy that's right behind us here. It's huge. This is one of our newer dinosaurs, Prote Protelitis. I try to say that one quick. Protelitis. This is actually a species that was discovered in 2023. This wasn't known in the fossil record until 2023. It's about a 35 ft long dinosaur weighing about 4000 pounds. It's a mere, a carnivorous dinosaur. So it's just one of the many dinosaurs we have here at the Dinosafari exhibit. If you like dinosaurs, you've got to come on down and you got to check it out, right?
