The American flags that were swiped from the Brooklyn Bridge last month are back on US soil, police confirm.
Two German artists admitted to replacing the flags with bleached-out versions in the middle of the night on July 22, calling it a tribute to public art and to the bridge's architect.
According to published reports, the artists handed the original flags over to the U.S. Embassy in Berlin. However, it's unclear when they will be in the hands of the NYPD.
The stunt has raised serious concerns over security on the city landmark.
Authorities say the incident remains under investigation. It is not yet known whether the artists will face any charges.
