The Brooklyn Ballet is putting their own twist on the iconic holiday production, "The Nutcracker."
"The Brooklyn Nutcracker" will incorporate African dance, flamenco, and hip-hop. This year, they will be introducing traditional Ukrainian dance, too.
"We are taking the idea of Brooklyn, who lives in Brooklyn, who creates in Brooklyn, who dances in Brooklyn, and we bring the community into the performance," said Lynn Parkerson, founder of Brooklyn Ballet.
The company prides itself in its cultural inclusivity and innovative choreography over the years.
The Brooklyn Nutcracker will put on two shows on Dec. 17 at the King's Theatre, with two additional matinees to be performed in front of over 5,000 students.
