Brooklyn doctor tackles health disparities in Black community
In celebration of Black History Month, News 12 is highlighting a Brooklyn doctor who's using education to tackle health disparities in the African American community.
Dr. Matthew Smith is a urologist at NYC Health and Hospitals/South Brooklyn Health.
Dr. Smith says he fell in love with medicine at a young age, and now at 32 years old, he's making a difference in the community.
Smith is now teaching health literacy seminars at Bedford Central Presbyterian Church in Bed-Stuy.
Dr. Smith is in graduate school working on his master's degree. Once he finishes, he's hoping to start his own non-profit and continue to impact the community through health education.
