Hymani Hardie was sentenced to six years in prison Thursday for running over a school bus driver in a violent road rage incident.

The attack happened on April 30, 2021, near Linden Boulevard and Hinsdale Street in East New York. Hardie was driving an Infiniti sedan, when an empty school bus blocked him at a red light.

Prosecutors said Hardie became enraged, got out of his car and broke two mirrors on the bus.

The bus driver, Camilla Gainey, stepped out to record Hardie’s car, when he ran her over before speeding away. She suffered serious injuries, including a shattered pelvis, broken ribs and a torn liver.

In court on Thursday, Hardie sat expressionless as Gainey gave an emotional impact statement.

Despite the physical and emotional trauma she has gone through since the incident, she said she is praying for him to turn his life around. Her family says the six-year sentence feels like a slap in the face.

Hardie declined to address Gainey directly.
