The Yankees season opens on Monday and many Bronx businesses are getting ready for the upcoming season.
Several businesses lining East 161st Street and River Avenue say they are preparing for what is usually one of their busiest days of the year.
Michael Rendino is the owner of Stan's Sports Bar, which is just steps from the stadium.
"Opening Day is our Christmas morning, everyone is excited, all the energy that goes along with it," says Rendino.
Rendino has been in business for 40 years but says last season was tough and that he hopes a better turnout on the field will bring more money off of it.
Some fans don't think sales will improve this season, especially since the Yankees are no longer accepting 'print-at-home' tickets from popular distributors like StubHub.
Rendino, like many other local business owners, tells News 12 that sales decreased last season because of Derek Jeter's retirement.
Even though the 27-time World Series champions play in his neighborhood, Rendino says it is not easy running a business that depends on the success of the team.
"It is difficult, there's a lot of variables you can't control, but the things you can control, you make sure you stay on top of your game and you're ready for anything," says Rendino.
Many store owners say they are keeping their fingers crossed, hoping the foot traffic continues all season long.
