Residents in the Bronx and the rest of the city were forced to cope Monday with bitter cold weather. Temperatures were in the 20s with wind chills making it feel like it was in the lower teens. Forecasters say a storm will begin to approach for Tuesday. The strong winds blew over telephone poles and downed wires on Teller Avenue, leaving those in the area without power for hours.
Residents were reminded to dress in layers to prevent hypothermia. Residents were urged to drink plenty of fluids, but to avoid alcohol since it can accelerate the loss of body heat. Due to the cold temperatures, residents were also advised to frequently check up on children and the elderly. Related information: News 12 The Bronx Weather Center
