A Bronx cab driver is back home from the hospital Friday after being attacked by a man he wanted to help.
Marcos Rivera has been on the job for seven years. He told News 12 that the ordeal was something all cab drivers try to mentally prepare for, but it's a day they hope will never come.
Around 6:40 a.m. Wednesday, Rivera had started his route and decided to pick up a man that spoke to him in Spanish. He says they had a long conversation, and even offered up life advice as he drove that man to his destination – a parole office on East 134th Street in Mott Haven.
When it was time to pay, police say the passenger took out a blade and attacked Rivera.
"I put the car in reverse, I grabbed the handle and at that moment he hit me with a big knife," said Rivera. "I felt the stab and I jumped and rolled out of the car."
Police are still looking for suspect captured in surveillance video of the incident.
