The Carmel Central School District had a two-hour delay Friday after being informed of a “possible, non-specific threat that was made by an individual” in the school community.
Carmen High School administrators say they were notified at 5:55 a.m.
According to the district, “this threat was not directly related to Carmel High School or any district school, but was a statement made on a group chat on Discord, regarding a school threat.”
District officials say the Putnam County Sheriff’s Office determined that the threat was unsubstantiated and gave them clearance to open all schools.
However, there was an increased police presence at schools to “ease any anxiety students may have about this concern.”
