In an effort to discourage New Yorkers from drinking and driving on New Year's Eve, every year Five J's Automotive does their part to keep the community safe.
Manager Eddie Vasquez, told News 12 his team tows major wreckage as a result of people driving under the influence.
Vasquez said his staff stays on duty through all hours of the night to take calls.
When his team receives a call, they will pick up the caller wherever they are in the Bronx, and bring them and their vehicle home.
According to The Institute for Traffic Safety Management in 2023, there were more than 8,900 alcohol related crashes statewide.
Vasquez encouraged viewers to reach out if they need assistance. "Call our number... (718) 792-0300 and we'll go out and get you," said Vasquez.
Local bar, Barrio BX, said they do their part to monitor how much they serve their customers while trying not to compromise their experience.
"I see everybody out until the sun comes out," said general manager, Edward Padilla, "Even if I smell you a little off, like I'm doing something about it."
Padilla said he often checks in with clientele to make sure they are getting a ride home or using a rideshare app. He said, his team often offers to arrange a ride for those drinking at their establishment, if the circumstances permit.
"There's no need to compromise the health and safety of the general public or yourself just for a good time," said Padilla.
Here a some tips for those celebrating on New Year's Eve: never drink and drive, always have a designated driver who can bring you home safely, and take advantage of rideshare apps.
