The Civilian Complaint Review Board on Monday says there were a big increase in NYPD misconduct complaints in 2023.
The board acknowledged there was a 51% uptick in complaints. The highest level since 2012.
"The idea that this increase is the result of 'increased enforcement' is a dangerous deflection being used by the NYPD and Mayor Adams to justify unconstitutional stops, illegal physical violence and verbal assaults against New Yorkers by police,” the New York City Justice Committee said in a statement.
The CCRB says in 2023, 5,604 complaints were filed compared to 3,700 in 2022.
