A charity basketball game was held in the borough Sunday afternoon to help a family in need.
The Ball For A Cure event was held at Saint Raymond’s High School in Parkchester.
Tristan Dillon, an alumnus of the high school, says it all began in 2015 when he was diagnosed with stage 4 colon cancer.
He says people began raising funds for him and his family to cover his medical expenses. Since then, he's been getting better and is now giving back to his community though his organization – No Battle Should Be Fought Alone – which helps people with cancer.
His friends also started nonprofits of their own to benefit the neighborhoods where they come from.
This year, Ball For a Cure made an exception and donated an award to four siblings who lost their mother to gun violence.
Volunteers have been collecting donations and selling food in the days leading up to the tournament, and they managed to surpass the $1,500 mark before the game even began.
