The City Council is considering a measure that could ease the burden of alternate side parking rules.
Currently, signage throughout the city states that there is no parking for a full 90 minutes while street sweepers move through neighborhoods. A hearing was held Monday for proposed legislation that would free drivers from waiting the full 90 minutes to move their cars back into empty spaces.
The bill would also allow drivers to wait inside their car on the side of the street that needed to be cleaned and then move when the sweeper comes by.
Officials spoke about implementing a GPS tracking system on street sweepers, such as the system in place for snowplows. Drivers would be able to see exactly when they can claim their spot again.
The proposed legislation aims to prevent double parking and potential tickets.
