Mayor Bill de Blasio and City Council Speaker Melissa Mark-Viverito are being praised for their efforts in passing a historic budget.
City Council members from the Bronx are calling the funds coming to the borough a great victory. They say that for the first time, they didn't make a list of programs to get rid of, but rather reshifted funds to figure out which programs could be enhanced.
Programs that could see enhancement from the budget include JASA, Bronx Works and cultural institutions like The Bronx Zoo and Wave Hill.
In addition, council members say $68,000 was granted to each district for the NYC Cleanup Program, as well as a budget expansion for all CUNY institutions in the Bronx.
City Council members say they believe the new budget reflects a shift in the direction of the city.
News 12 The Bronx is told that after the allocation of capital and discretionary funds, five out of the eight Bronx districts received an additional $100,000 to go toward anti-poverty initiatives.
