A law that could go into effect soon prevents city stores from disallowing shoppers from using cash.

Councilmember Ritchie Torres says with so many New Yorkers far from a bank, it's important to give consumers the option of cash or card.

At Michaelangelo's on Arthur Avenue, they accept all forms of payment. Their manager says they see mostly credit card transactions, but cash is beneficial.

"It's a lot easier than having to wait for all the credit cards to come through the machine, which takes like a week or so to process so there are benefits to it," says manager Dawn Iturriahga.

If signed by the mayor, the law will go into effect in nine months.
