Lawmakers are teaming up with domestic violence activists for a citywide public awareness campaign on the signs of abuse.Members of the City Council and Safe Horizon, the country's leading victim assistance group, say the facts about domestic violence illustrate why the campaign was formed. They say about one in three women report being abused by their husband or boyfriend. The city's domestic violence hotline reportedly receives between 400-600 calls each day.The first goal of the campaign is urging teens and young adults who notice abuse in their own lives to seek help. The activists and lawmakers say women between 16 and 24 years old are at the highest risk for domestic abuse. The campaign also wants to educate the general public about signs of domestic violence and how to report it.The $1.7 million campaign will include outreach strategies in four languages, public service announcements and billboards.
