There have been growing safety concerns surrounding potholes in the city. Cars, buses and pedestrians must swerve to avoid craters, especially on Fordham Road.
For 81-year-old Aida, cracks in the road make traveling around difficult. She says as she crosses Fordham Road on Third Avenue, her wheel gets stuck as the light turns green. She tells News 12 that the potholes and cave-ins make walking around scary.
"It's not good, I could fall," she says. "Fix them."
On the one crosswalk alone, there is a drain cave-in, a crack in the road and a pothole, just steps away from each other. Many say something needs to be done.
"Fix it," Zuhieui said. "Especially for the elderly people that have to go over it."
The cave-in is also directly in front of Fordham University. Students say it's an issue when they step off campus.
"I've seen people slip and fall in it," said Fordham student Genevieve Dokurno, "especially with the sidewalk being up on a ledge."
Fordham student Hannah West agrees.
"We have a lot of people using wheelchairs around here, so I think that should be something they fix, especially for those who need that accessibility," she says.
NYC Department of Environmental Protection tells News 12 they are sending a crew to investigate and repair the catch basin.
