An expanded, streamlined bus service will simplify transportation between the Bronx and Queens, according to officials.
In the new system, riders insert a ticket at a terminal outside the bus, rather than paying when boarding.
The expansion affects almost 14 miles of service between the two boroughs. It's the city's ninth select service route.
Some straphangers say they are skeptical about whether the select service will actually reduce travel time.
"It just takes too much time to get that ticket," says Jeffrey Torres, a Bronx commuter.
Brandon Osorio, another straphanger agrees.
"This morning, I went to grab a ticket," Osorio says. "The bus left me."
City officials say that they believe the new system will improve service for the roughly 42,000 daily bus riders who use the line.
