The city is taking a hyperlocal approach to coronavirus testing and tracing in certain neighborhoods.
The Clason Point Library in the Bronx is the latest site to host what Mayor Bill de Blasio calls an "intense" COVID-19 testing and tracing operation.
De Blasio says it has proved to be successful after an uptick in cases in Sunset Park. The positivity rate in that neighborhood now sits at 1.3%.
The mayor credits those numbers to localized outreach in the area, bringing free rapid tests with results in 25 minutes.
Multilingual contact tracers work on site to locate those exposed to people who have tested positive.
De Blasio says this strategy is being used in places with higher positivity rates like Borough Park as well as communities with lower testing rates like Soundview.
As of Wednesday morning, 570 tests were performed at the Clason Point Library, which will remain a testing site through Sept. 15.
