Community Board 6 on Wednesday put a stop to a plan for changes along Southern Boulevard.
The Department of Transportation has proposed adding a two-lane, protected bike lane. They also wanted to narrow travel lanes to make them less conducive to speeding, especially during the daytime.
From 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., the DOT wants to make the sides of the street no-standing zones. The agency does want to keep overnight and weekend parking the same.
The board sent the DOT back to the drawing board without approval for the plan.
The community board has issues with the proposal, saying it does not see how students unloading into the Bronx Zoo area on Southern Boulevard would be safer when vehicles cannot pull over to let them off. Members were also upset by the loss of daytime parking and increased traffic.
The DOT says it's working to look for other places in the neighborhood to add parking in order to balance the 82 lost spaces in the current plan.
