Some community and business leaders in Throgs Neck are demanding that the Department of Transportation stop work on a “Road Diet” along East Tremont and Harding Avenues.

Community members say the DOT began the work a few days ago to reduce lanes and add turning and bike lanes along the corridor.

During a virtual meeting held in July with the community, they say the DOT agreed to another meeting with business leaders and residents in September to further discuss their concerns.

They say this meeting never took place and that the work has already started. Now, there has been talk about taking legal action within the community.

Councilman Mark Gjonaj says the DOT needs to keep its word to the community and put the brakes on the road work.

“DOT should stop immediately. The invitation by the Bronx commissioner with the community board should be done immediately to inform residents and make them part of the discussion so their voices can be heard,” said Gjonaj.

News 12 reached out to DOT on the issue and has not heard back yet.
