3h agoA popular restaurant in Bay Ridge is closed after a fire ripped through an apartment above the business.
The general manager of Campania Coal Fire Pizza on 4th Avenue said his business suffered major water and smoke damage Monday night as firefighters battled the fire.
The fire started in the apartment of Gustavo Bravo, who is the longtime head chef of Campania.
He and his wife are now homeless and using funds from the Red Cross to stay in a hotel, but he said funds will run out this weekend.
"We don't know where to go, we don't know what to do," said Bravo. "We cried, we felt really bad because we lost everything."
Bravo was downstairs working at Campania when the fire started, what caused it is still under investigation.
Amid the adversity customers of the business have been donating clothes at Campania, which is also raising money to help Bravo and his wife get back on their feet.
Campania is hoping to reopen for business in two weeks.
