Community comes together at hoops tournament in honor of slain teen

Community members came together Saturday to remember a teen whose life was taken too soon, and to inspire children to avoid the senseless violence that led to his death.
The "Ball Out Not Shoot Out" basketball tournament marks the latest in Stephanie Garcia's ongoing efforts to honor her son, Sincear Williams. Williams was fatally shot in December of 2017 when bullets started flying at Maestro's Catering Hall during a sweet 16 celebration.
Williams' death inspired his mother to start Forever Sincear Inc., an organization focused on helping parents grieving the loss of their children while also hosting events that provide Bronx kids alternatives to violence.
Saturday's basketball tournament saw the gym at Lehman High School full of kids, community members, police officers and others. It was held on what would have been Williams' 18th birthday.
The suspect in Williams' murder, Kameron Wallace, was arrested about a month after the deadly shooting and is facing murder charges. He has a court date coming up this week.
