Community leaders are addressing violence in Crown Heights after five people were injured in a shooting Monday night.
Neighbors tell News 12 the shooting happened in the middle of a vigil for a woman named Leah, who they believed died from an illness.
On Monday, a crowd came together to celebrate her life when shots were fired. Three women and two men were shot. The victims were taken to the hospital and are all expected to be OK.
Local leaders denounced the violence and say that as national and local protests have called for less policing over the past few weeks--it’s led to more crime.
The leaders are calling on the community to stop the violence. They are also asking elected officials to invest in community services to help prevent incidents like the one that happened Monday night.
