Bronx residents celebrated the borough’s annual Veterans Day Parade Saturday, as it made its way from East 175th Street and Crotona Parkway to Vidalia Park.

Organizers say Veterans Day allows for time to remember victims of all wars who have survived and often struggle with homelessness and mental health.

Political officials say it's a sacrifice that deserves much more than a parade.

"They prepare to put it on the line. They're the ones who are the first line of defense for us and I think we need to show them support for them not only when they're out there, but also when they come back,” says Bronx Supreme Court Justice Fernando Tapia.

Parade organizers honored private first class Emmanuel Mensah, who died rescuing neighbors from his burning Belmont building last December.
