A 14-year-old girl is in the hospital after police say she was stabbed multiple times in Baychester Tuesday night. Authorities say the suspect remains at large as the investigation continues.

The incident happened just after 6 p.m. near Tiemann and Hammersley avenues. Police say the teenage victim was stabbed in the head and torso.

First responders rushed the girl to the hospital, where officials say she is currently in stable condition. Sources tell News 12 the girl has not been cooperating with police, leaving detectives with limited information as they piece together the events leading up to the stabbing.

The streets in the area have since reopened, but police say they are actively searching for a male suspect who was last seen wearing all black.

Anyone with information that could help investigators is asked to contact Crime Stoppers at 1-800-577-TIPS. All calls are confidential.
