A crowd gathered outside Maimonides Medical Center Thursday to rally behind the family of a man who was shot in the face by an Immigration and Customs Enforcement agent.
They showed up to support Eric Diaz, who was shot in the face by an ICE agent attempting to arrest Gasper Avenando Hernandez.
The crowd said it would not leave until the ICE officers inside the hospital exit. Pins, signs and dozens of protesters lined the entryway to the emergency room.
They say today's incident is just one example of a larger issue, which is the treatment of immigrants by the federal government.
News 12 is told Diaz is in stable condition.
