Con Edison officials say electricity use was at its height for 2009 Monday, as Bronx residents deal with a three-day heat wave.

With temperatures soaring to 90 degrees and hotter, some Bronx residents have tried to stay inside and pump their air conditioners. According to Harold Wissner, who works at Air-Wave Air Conditioning, many residents have come in to purchase new air conditioners or repair old ones.

Con Ed officials say, though temperatures are high, residents should be careful not to overuse air conditioners at the risk of breaking them. Experts also recommend staying hydrated and trying to avoid spending too much time outdoors in the heat.
