Con Edison says it has been working to upgrade gas service in both the Norwood and Bedford Park areas of the Bronx.
Officials say they are repairing cast iron and unprotected steel main lines.
A spokesperson for Con Ed says parking restrictions, traffic obstructions and some sidewalk closures are in effect.
Work is taking place on E. 206th Street between Bainbridge and Perry avenues, Bainbridge Avenue between Bedford Park Boulevard and E. 201st Street.
Con Ed says they replaced 86 miles of cast iron and unprotected steel mains last year and expect to surpass that this year.
The project is expected to last through September.
